Early Connections are Lasting Connections
The weekend of July 20-22, the Alabama Association of Licensed Early Care and Education (AALECE) held their annual conference in Gulf Shores, Alabama. The conference theme, 'Early Connections are Lasting Connections', was attended by 337 child care professionals from around the state and hosted 18 early care and education exhibitors. Seventeen different sessions were offered during the 2 and 1/2-day conference. A focus group targeting child care center directors looked at national accreditation for child care centers and what is happening in this regard in Alabama. Featured speakers were Dr. Donna Thornton, President of the National Association for Child Care Professionals (NACCP), and Dr. Beverly Mulvihill of Civitan International Research Center, representing the Consortium's incremental accreditation initiative, "Soaring to Excellence". The discussion centered on the benefits and challenges of obtaining accreditation as well as the differences and similarities of several national accreditation systems.
