Overall Goal:

The overall goal of the Consortium is to improve the quality of all forms of childcare in the state of Alabama. The Consortium will improve child care in a timely, equitable, and efficient manner, so that the improvements will continue beyond the Consortium’s involvement.

Rationale:

Quality childcare is essential for the success of welfare reform and for improving the future of Alabama’s children; yet, at present childcare programs are licensed according to minimum standards that focus primarily on health and safety issues. High quality child care will improve child development, school readiness and the well-being of parents and communities.

Operating Principles:

The Consortium will be a coordinated and collaborative effort among all key groups, agencies, and individuals involved in childcare throughout the state to design and implement programs which will improve child care in the state of Alabama.
