Just As I Am receives
Independent Publishers Award
Just As I Am, a coffee-table book with art-quality black and white photographs, features 41 Americans with disabilities. Accompanying the photographs by Carolyn Sherer is a brief essay of each individual by author Ellen Dossett, director of LIFE Projects at the UAB Civitan International Research Center. In this book the universal desires for respect, independence, and opportunity to contribute are expressed eloquently through the words and images of the featured individuals. Just As I Am won the 2000 National Independent Publishers Award (IPPY) in the category of inspiration.
