Genetics in Cyberspace
WHAT?
Hands on Computer Workshop at Emory University Computer Lab
WHO?
Everyone who wants to delve into (wander around, navigate or
otherwise begin to understand) the Internet as a point of access to genetics information
WHEN?
Friday morning, February 23, 1996. This is in the morning
before the Plenary Sessions begin at 1:00 pm. If you are coming to Atlanta on Thursday night, take this opportunity to get wet on the Net
HOW?
A computer laboratory will be held beginning at 8:00 am. Demonstrations will be given but the majority of time participants will work at the computer to design their own bibliography of valuable sites. Come for an hour or for the morning!
Buses will transport participants from the Colony Square Hotel (outside front lobby) to the Emory Computer Laboratory (approximately 20 minute drive) hourly beginning at 7:30 am.

Special Guests and Events at the SERGG Meeting
Capitation for Medical Genetics Services
is the topic of the
Finance Committee's Workshop at the Annual meeting. The discussion
will be presented by W. Robert Wright, Jr., FACMPE, who has served
as Chief Operating Officer of the University of Virginia Health
Services Foundation since January, 1991. The UVA HSF is the
centralized medical faculty practice plan at the University of
Virginia. Previously, Mr. Wright served in management positions in
the practice plans and Schools of Medicine at the Medical College
of Virginia/Virginia Commonwealth University and at the University
of Alabama at Birmingham. Mr. Wright undertook collegiate studies
at Auburn University and the University of Alabama at Birmingham,
He holds Fellow status in the American College of Medical Practice
Executives. He is a past President of the American College of
Medical Practice Executives and has served in leadership roles of
several professional organizations. Mr. Wright is currently the
President-elect of the Academic Practice Assembly of the Medical
Group Management Association and is Second Vice President of the
Medical Group Management Association.
Education of the Primary Care Provider about Genetics and Genetic
Services
will be the topic of the Symposium presented by the
Education committee. Hilary Worthen, MD, FACFM is the guest
speaker. Dr. Worthen is director of the Cambridge Hospital
Community Medicine Program. He has a unique interest and special
expertise in practicing medicine in the community with the best
possible information about genetics. He directed the unique
program, "Genetics for the Primary Care Provider, What you Really
need to know" in October, 1994. Dr. Worthen will help the genetics
professionals begin to understand what the primary care providers
really need to know and importantly, how the genetics community can
provide that information in the most usable form.
The Challenge of Developing a Genetics State Plan
is the topic of
the Public Health Management Committee. Guest speaker, Ms. Mary
Ann Coffman, Genetic Service Consultant from Edmond Oklahoma will
share her special perspective.
